AI Safety Unconference 2025

The AI Safety Unconference Melbourne 2025 (AISUM25 or the Unconference) is a project of Good Ancestors (ABN 23 664 195 484). The Unconference organisers and Good Ancestors are committed to protecting your privacy. This statement explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you apply for the Unconference, in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What information we collect

We collect this information under Australian Privacy Principle 3 for the purposes outlined below. Through the application and registration process, we collect:

  • Application
    • Your name and contact details (email, phone if provided)
    • Professional/academic background and AI safety experience
    • Your responses to application questions
  • Registration (if accepted)
    • Any dietary requirements and accessibility needs

If you don't provide required information, we may not be able to process your application or provide appropriate event arrangements.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Assess applications and select participants
  • Contact you about your application status
  • Organise event logistics (catering, name badges, etc.)
  • Send event updates and information
  • Send you post-event surveys for feedback to improve future events

We may also use aggregated and anonymised information to report on the event's success.

We will not use your information for marketing or promotional purposes.

Who has access and overseas disclosure

Your information is accessed only by:

  • The event organising team (Michael Kerrison and Alexander Saeri)
  • Service providers necessary for event delivery, including:
    • Humanitix (event registration platform) - servers may be located outside Australia
    • Google Workspace (data storage and email) - servers may be located outside Australia

When we disclose information to overseas recipients, we remain accountable for compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles. We do not sell or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Your rights

You can:

  • Request a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information at any time (before, during, or after the event)
  • Withdraw consent for us to contact you about future events

Data quality: We take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we collect is accurate, up-to-date, and complete. Please let us know if your details change.

Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including:

  • Storing data in password-protected systems
  • Limiting access to the organising team only
  • Using secure platforms (Google Forms/Workspace, Humanitix, etc.)

We may update this statement occasionally. We'll note the update date at the top of this page.

Making a complaint

If you have concerns about how we've handled your personal information:
